It's been a week

January 23rd, 2011 at 08:24 pm

since my last entry. Since then, things have been bad here. Hubby had a huge argument with his mum and basically told me he wants out now. Well I told him I'll need his help saving because our current method of him paying back his mum and not helping me save isn't working. It doesn't help that his mum hasn't acknowledged how much he has actually paid back. But that's not the point. The point is that we both want out. Preferably this year.

How much does he owe his Mum? Is hubby keeping track of what has been paid and what is still owed?

Sorry for the tension in your house. Frown

I am sorry to hear about the situation with your husband. I know money problems really take a toll on our relationships. Bless your heart and may God surround and protect both of you as you make this important decision.

Sorry things are so tense. Hopefully things have cooled off.

Thanks guys. Things have cooled off now.
We were keeping track of what he'd paid her but she disagreed with how much he'd paid. According to our records, he owes her about £600.

Did you pay her by check or by cash? I pay my mom back by check and keep a record of every check number and amount and the date paid in a spreadsheet, so if there is ever any doubt I have proof. My mom isn't difficult about it, but I feel better protecting myself.

I know what your husband is feeling; I've been in the same spot. I end up having an argument and then I tell my husband I want out NOW. Luckily, my arguments haven't been too bad and usually blow over in a day or two.

I’m really, really glad to see in the comments that it has cooled down. It’s never fun to live in a house where there is tension like that. I wish you luck as you start preparing to move out this year.

What has to get done in order for you to be able to move out? For us, my husband has to get his dream job, or if that doesn’t happen by the end of this year, some other full-time job with benefits.

Lucky Robin: it was cash Frown She even used the line "i've got bank statements" Not that her statements would prove anything cos he physically handed her the money.

TarWalker: I think we just have to save more, and I want to get rid of debt. We can't afford to buy so we will private let since our local council is no help. A lot of people here think private let is a waste of money but it's better than here. Private let is expensive but we would just have to struggle for a while.

That is awkward, certainly, but it might be time to look at receipts when he pays her something. 600 pounds is nothing to sneeze at, and disagreements over money can lead to a lot of grief (as you don't need any reminding I am sure). At least with receipts in hand you would have some insurance of knowing what you paid, and being able to back it up. Good luck to you! I hope you are out sooner than later...
