Update

October 25th, 2013 at 06:12 am

Three weeks in to this minimal spending and I'm finding myself stressing out. So much so, that I woke up at 5.30 this morning just to pay some bills that are due. Of course I checked my bank balance and it is getting lower. It's not going to get higher, obviously.

I've got a few more bills to pay then the rest are direct debit, so no need to worry about them.

We're almost out of potatoes but I'm going to hold off getting them for a couple of days - we've got plenty of pasta and rice to keep us going. I've already had to buy bread, milk and butter this week.

Yesterday was a NSD.

Way to go on the NSD. Please try not to stress about the bills, try to turn that energy towards something more positive. Maybe focus on how good it feels to use whatever food is already in the house, or think about the progress you are making towards paying down your bills. I'm impressed by the steps that you are taking to improve your financial situation, you are really taking action, be proud of that!

I agree with mamasita. Way to go on the NSD. I wish I had more of those. I would suggest looking at what you have in your cupboards and fridge and getting creative. For example, if you had some rice, chicken, and canned or fresh vegetables, you could make a great stir fry, chicken soup, or casserole. Focus on what you do have rather than what you don't. Don't stress over bills, because they are not important. Taking care of yourself and your family are important.

Way to go on the NSD also. Try to keep yourself 'even'. Four days ago you were excited and now you are stressed for exactly the same reason - minimal spending. Think about ways to flatten your emotions about this project. Remember that this is a lifestyle change so it is marathon, not a sprint.

You poor thing. I'm sure we've all had times we're so stressed we wake up in a panic or can't get to sleep, but the others are right, and you are still making progress and have a lovely little family, so try to distract yourself from the bills if you can.

I know we non-USers don't seem to have as many survey opportunities, but any babysitting jobs or anything like that you could pick up? Bulletin board at your store? I know you have a job and a home and a bub so not much spare time, but just a temp thing to gain a little breathing room over the next month, 'specially leading up to Christmas? Best of luck.
