Click, click, click

November 30th, 2014 at 12:14 pm

I love being able to shop online. Other times, it's my downfall. Take last night for example. I went on to my catalogue website to look at jackets for DH. He desperately needs a new one. I found that, then I ordered a few jumpers and dresses for SG. Then I found some novelty Christmas jumpers and outfits. £200 later. I can't complain because it's my fault. I made it a Buy Now Pay Later purchase - which I hate - because I realised I'd ordered too much. Sg really needs some new jumpers and I don't have spare money at the moment.

I will pay this off although I knew the money would be better off elsewhere (credit cards, EF) I am going to stop ordering from my catalogue unless it's up to the value of my rewards which I get every month.

I just wanted to update in the interest of full disclosure and to hold myself accountable.

Awareness and honesty with yourself is a good thing!

I don't mean to criticize or sound negative but wonder if you would be willing to look at what is driving your impulse buying,on-line in the shops or wherever? I've no idea of interest rates are in UK and wonder if you know how much of your income is swept away in interest rates and fees [whatever they're called]. These are serious factors here in the frozen north.

Years ago we instigated a home protocol that required us to immediately sell/ donate/trash an existing, similar item whenever something new came in, to keep the volume of stuff from getting bigger. The unanticipated benefit was the instant halt to impulse buying. We didn't want to pitch an existing pair of jeans because we saw a great price on a new brand for example.

How many dresses does SG have in her current group? Do you think you'd reduce impulse buying if you were to sell/consign/donate those that no longer fit as a part of the transaction? Will jumpers/sweaters be purged the day the new ones come into circulation. Will DH trash the old jacket the 1st time he wears the new one?

    ...just an idea...an unedited thought

CCF thanks Smile Snafu, I'm not too sure exactly where it came from because it contradicts my declutter mission. SG doesn't have any jumpers or knitted dresses in her current size but she has other ones that are smaller that I'm going to get rid of by either donating or selling. I think that would definetly help to stop impulse buying. I'm not too sure about DH...
MIL has just text me saying that BIL will drop off the Christmas presents she's got for the kids. I wasn't expecting this, so more purging because I have no idea what she's bought and she didn't ask me their current/next sizes. Actually, she never does.

Are you able to return the items you may not really need/ can't really afford right now? Have you checked thrift shops for similar pieces?
