Worst idea ever?

March 5th, 2015 at 06:06 pm

So dh still owes 190 to his mum. If he doesn't get it paid off of her credit card this month, interest will be charged. I looked at the budget and by paying minimum to my credit card and minimal spending elsewhere we can make the payment. I am crazy for paying less to my debt, I know.

ETA: Dh wanted to put it on his credit card.

I think I'd pay off the family debt first, myself, just because of the emotional baggage. Then it will be off your plate and you can tackle the credit card debt next month!

I agree with CB. I would not want to make payments to family. If you put it on your husband credit card would the payment be the same?

You mean it would impact her, and make her accrue interest if you don't pay money you owe her? I would not consider anything else and would make her card an absolute priority. She put herself out there to help you, so I don't know how you can consider any other use for that money.

I'm with the others - definitely pay off the debt you owe your MIL before other debts.

    Argh!
I know that frustrating feeling when you have to spend the money somewhere else but you want to put it on your own things.
You are unfortunately stuck because if MIL gets the interest it will just end up costing you more down the road to make it right.
So TECHNICALLY by paying it now you will have MORE towards your own debt later as opposed to paying interest.
    Good luck!
