Friend's wedding

June 30th, 2006 at 09:56 am

One of my close friends is getting married today. I had to borrow money from my mum to go. I don't know exactly where the registry office is so I've ordered a cheap rate taxi. Hopefully we'll get the bus back to save some money. I think I might have to order soft drinks at the reception. I'll be having a three course meal there so I should be fine. Maybe I should just order water instead?

No Spend Day!

June 27th, 2006 at 04:09 pm

It's not like I can afford to spend money anyway.

I wish I had saved more for graduation. I didn't think I would be graduating so I thought I would worry about it when I got my results.

Me and my OH are hanging out with one of my friends from school today. He's coming to my OH's house so there will be no spending. He broke up with his girlfriend of 5 years and she went to Cyprus so I think he's feeling lonely now.

Slim-fast coupons

June 27th, 2006 at 12:06 pm

For some reason a while ago I registered with slim-fast and they sent me a free sample (chocolate bar). My mum liked it. This morning I got two coupons for a free smoothie (£1.19) and a free bar (59p). When I use these coupons I'm going to put the money towards my challenge.

I've also decided that if I buy reduced items that I don't need I will put that towards my challenge too.

A quiet hen night & some luck

June 27th, 2006 at 12:02 am

It was my friend's hen night on Saturday. My boss didn't give me the favour that I wanted (the day off)so I had to swap shifts with another colleague. I worked from 9am-6pm and I had to meet my friend at 7pm. I actually got there before her. Anyway we ended up going go-karting, then getting all-you-can-eat at the Chinese then went to the local club. I didn't have a lot of money on me so I was really budgeting all night, so much so that I only had one (alcoholic) drink. The soft drinks were cheaper so I just drank them. I told my friend I was completely skint so I wouldn't be spending a lot, she was just happy that I had went.

The night ended up being really quiet; not what I expected. I also didn't think go-karting was something that you did on your hen night, I suppose it depends on the person.

I put in £1 every week to the bonus ball at work. My number came up on Saturday when I was about ready to give up on it ever coming up. Today I used the money sensibly: paid the phone bill and put money into the gas and electricity. I couldn't have won the money at a better time.

It's my friend's wedding on Friday, I will not be drinking a lot since I'll have to borrow money from my mum.

I've filled out the application forms for Volunteer Scotland I just need to post them. It was three pages long and it's only for volunteering. It's been so long since I've actually filled one out. If I do get the volunteer position there's about seven weeks of training. It's a long process but I suppose that's to make sure that you definetly want to volunteer.

I've been looking at job vacancies; they all say I need experience, especially the Assistant Psychologist vacancy. Hopefully I can spend this year making my CV look better by getting experience. The only bad point is that it may mean another year in the supermarket and I don't know if I can cope with that.

Surprising results

June 23rd, 2006 at 11:02 am

I passed!!

Exam results tomorrow!

June 22nd, 2006 at 10:48 am

I thought I got them in July but I checked my university's website and it's tomorrow. I'm working all day tomorrow so I'll have to check them when I've finished.

Why does everything happen at the same time?

June 21st, 2006 at 10:48 pm

I sent an application form to Volunteer Scotland and they got in touch with me today. I'm hoping to get a placement there so I can get some experience so I can get a better job.

A few days ago I emailed one of my mum's friends to see if there were any job vacancies at her work. She replied today and said there were two; she gave me their number. I might just get an application form and see.

I think this is too much because I should be focusing more on graduation since I haven't got everything ready for it e.g. shoes, bag, additional tickets (if I pass). I really shouldn't be applying for jobs when I don't know my results.

Ideally I would like to try the job where my mum's friend works (21 hours),volunteer for one day and still keep my part-time job (15 hours). I'd still have driving lessons to fit in too. My mum thinks it would be too much; my OH doesn't even know about this one yet. There's no way I can do everything, but I could try. I might just fill out the application form even though I said I would wait till September before applying for a job. I might not even get it.

I might not have any money but...

June 21st, 2006 at 09:05 pm

I'm going to make a list of all my savings over these two weeks e.g. £1 for walking my dog and any savings I make on bus fare. I'll add this to my challenge when I've got money (although July is going to be an expensive month).

I've maxed out my overdraft!!!

June 21st, 2006 at 02:05 pm

How the hell did I manage to do that?? I checked my balance today, and printed out a receipt.

The next two weeks are going to be bad, I have my friend's wedding and her bridal shower to go to. I can't cancel now, I've already said I'll be there!!

Driving lesson tomorrow. If I cancel now he'll still charge me for it. I'll tell him I can't afford it for the next two weeks.

I thought having this blog would help but obviously I'm not trying hard enough.

A depressing thought

June 19th, 2006 at 11:18 pm

I am hoping to save 2K by April 2007. I have only saved £35.60 so far Frown

I have to save £1964.40 by then!!

I definetly should have been more realistic when deciding how much to save.

A boring day, but at least I got paid for it

June 19th, 2006 at 10:58 pm

I did some overtime today, it was only a 6 hour shift. The store was reasonably quiet, and we were only really struggling when other members of staff were on their breaks. I like quiet days, it feels like it's easy money.

Speaking of money, I usually buy Cosmopolitan every month. This month it only cost £2 and I got a free beach bag with it, which I will be taking on holiday with me.

I've saved a total of £2.50 over the past two days. It isn't a lot but it's been added to my challenge.

New total: £33.10 + £2.50 = £35.60

I think this month has quite a lot of expenses but I'll notice it more in July when I graduate (hopefully). Worst case scenario: I have re-sits and i graduate in November but I will still have the Graduation Ball.

I've put my name down for one extra shift during the week of the Graduation Ball. It's an early shift so if I'm not completely organised I can always go shopping afterwards.

My first email notification about a comment added to my blog

June 16th, 2006 at 03:46 pm

It was so nice to check my mail and find that a comment had been added to my blog.

No Spend Day

June 16th, 2006 at 02:54 pm

I really like having these days.

I just phoned the hairdressers and booked an appointment to get my hair put up for my graduation ball.

I still have to buy shoes to go with my dress.

Less than a month to go Big Grin

Advantage card arrived

June 16th, 2006 at 12:11 pm

My advantage card arrived today, with a coupon for double points for two transactions until 12th July.

I forgot to mention that I added £10 to my ISA.

I'm in the red, I hate it. I need to get everything sorted.

Savings of the day

June 14th, 2006 at 08:26 pm

Added £3.70 to my challenge - I walked my dog twice and I added the savings I made when I was shopping.

New total: £33.10

I found my CV!

June 14th, 2006 at 07:12 pm

I'm so pleased, I thought I was going to have to write another one. I wrote this one during my first semester of my final year so I need to make some minor changes.

Job hunting will begin after I come back from the Dominican Republic in September.Smile

"Are you handing in your notice?"

June 14th, 2006 at 05:52 pm

I went into work today to ask my manager for a favour. This is unusual for me; I never go to see my manager on a day off. My manager thought I was there to hand in my notice. She looked worried.

Finally added more money

June 12th, 2006 at 01:54 pm

Since Friday I have saved a total of £8.30 so I added that to my challenge today.

New total: [bold]£29.40 [/bold]

Busy week

June 12th, 2006 at 12:33 pm

Today I am going to play badminton at my old high school with my OH. Cost: £6 (he's paying the next time). We're going to take out a membership to see if it will be cheaper since we're planning on going regularly.

Tomorrow I am meeting up with my two friends from school. One of them is getting married at the end of the month. Cost: £10 hopefully at the most, we're just meeting up for lunch.

Wednesday: coffee with my auntie
Cost: £5 at the most

Thursday: working all day

Friday: may be making a meal at my OH's house for a friend of his mum's. He made it the last time now it's my turn.

Holiday's paid!

June 11th, 2006 at 12:14 pm

I paid the last of my holiday a couple of days ago! Now all I have to concentrate on is spending money and it won't be a lot because it's all inclusive. I think about £200 might be enough. I've never went all-inclusive before so I don't really know how much to take.

Lesson of the day: check email earlier

June 7th, 2006 at 09:27 pm

I came home from work and checked my university email account. I don't automatically check this because my course has finished now so there's really no reason to. I got an email from my lecturer asking who was going to the class get-together next Thursday. I could have kicked myself for not checking it earlier - I put my name down for a shift next Thursday! I can't go! I'm just not meant to go to these things; I missed going to the pub on Saturday because I was working. I hate it when things like this happen.

Lovely weather

June 7th, 2006 at 07:32 pm

The weather here has been brilliant, well it's been a lot better than the usual British weather - rain. Me and my OH walked to work, it was really nice.

I saved 70p shopping and £1.40 when my mum's friend gave me a lift home. Added this to my challenge.

New total: £21.10

No Spend Day

June 6th, 2006 at 04:14 pm

I love these days Smile

Coupons

June 5th, 2006 at 11:53 pm

I joined this website in January and, believe it or not, I haven't used coupons at all. I really don't know why; maybe it's because my mum is responsible for shopping. I think it's about time that this changes. I've been looking in magazines for them and I've found some which expire at the end of the month. I also have a coupon for 10% off in Superdrug. I'm now looking for coupons in magazines etc. I find that if I send away for a free sample I usually get a coupon. I have two coupons for garnier nutrisse to use, so I will buy something for going on holiday.

Any savings I make are going towards my challenge. I really don't like having less than £20. Hopefully there will be a noticeable increase in the total soon.

Bus fare

June 5th, 2006 at 09:57 pm

I managed to save 60p on bus fare today by getting a different bus so I added that to my challenge.

New total: £19.00

Exam didn't go well

June 4th, 2006 at 11:55 am

I think I might have to re-sit during the summer which will mean a November graduation. I'm hoping I've just passed.

Night before final exam

June 2nd, 2006 at 07:45 pm

My last exam is tomorrow, on a Saturday of all days. I'll be going into work later because of it. I'm really stressed now, I want to graduate in July and if I fail anything then I won't.

I'm planning to arrive at uni about an hour and a half before my exam starts to do some last minute revision and get something to eat. I'll be so glad when it's over.

It helps to be organised

June 2nd, 2006 at 04:41 pm

For the past week or so my mum has been complaining that everything she eats tastes sweet. She's only 43. I think she needs to change her diet. Last night she only ate veg from her dinner because she didn't like the taste of anything else. Anyway today she decided to make a curry sauce with chicken. As it turns out we didn't have everything in the house that we needed for the sauce. We're going shopping on Monday and we're going to buy in extra tins of chopped tomatoes etc so we can make a proper curry sauce. My mum is happy with the result considering we didn't have all of the ingredients. I need to be more organised in the future. If I was then things like this wouldn't happen.

June goals

June 2nd, 2006 at 04:29 pm

Put more money towards challenge
Put money into ISA - this time I definetly will even if it's only £10
Pay rest of holiday (£106)

I will be into my overdraft again, I know I will. Maybe my aim for July should be to stay in the black? As long as there's overtime at work I should be fine.

I'm considering looking for a second job. I only work 15 hours per week. I might look into that soon, well after the holiday.

still not reached £20 yet

June 2nd, 2006 at 04:14 pm

Added £1.00 for taking my dog out today.

New total: £18.40.
