The financial entry

July 31st, 2006 at 10:52 pm

I walked my dog today so I have £1 to add to my challenge, but I haven't done that yet. Before I go to bed, I'll add it.I also have other savings that I've made while shopping to add - but that will have to wait until I get paid. My challenge has really been neglected for the past while.

After my holiday I might change my contract, just in case the overtime stops when the summer ends. I doubt it; a lot of people are leaving.

During August I need to put aside spending money and preferably put money into my ISA. I also need to put more money towards the challenge.

I also have £3.20 to add to my challenge for not buying my magazine in July.

Decisions

July 31st, 2006 at 10:43 pm

I have an honours degree in Psychology. I don't know what I am going to do with it. I've been looking into further study and they all say that experience is essential. Working part-time in a supermarket definetly won't help me. I need proper experience. I don't have the best degree classification so that really doesn't help me. If I do end up doing further study, I'll need to find out about funding etc. I've emailed a few institutions and asked for more information on their courses. I can only wait and find out.

Finally at £50!

July 27th, 2006 at 11:31 pm

I walked my dog twice so I added £2

New total: £50.60

New cookbook

July 25th, 2006 at 04:49 pm

Actually, it's not new. I bought it from a charity shop. I plan to use it a lot. There's some pasta recipes which I will definetly use for work. Taking sandwiches all the time is boring.

No Spend Day

July 25th, 2006 at 02:47 pm

I haven't spent a penny today Smile

Every little helps

July 25th, 2006 at 12:42 pm

I walked my dog today and I had some other savings to add to my challenge.

Old Total: £44.30
Added £4.30
New Total: £48.60

Why didn't I start saving earlier?

July 24th, 2006 at 11:22 pm

I've just been reading some of my previous entries. I should have actually saved the money instead of just writing about it here. I would have had a better start on saving this money if I had done that. What was I thinking?

Some decisions made

July 24th, 2006 at 07:09 pm

After my holiday I will:

- focus more on my challenge
- look for another job
- add to my other savings account

I went to the doctors today and got my malaria tablets, I don't have to start taking them yet. They only cost a couple of pounds; I had my prepayment certificate to use for the other vaccinations which I'm getting next week.

Lunch

July 20th, 2006 at 05:36 pm

For the next three days I'm planning on taking my own lunch to work. It's not exciting though: a sandwich (probably ham), a yoghurt, packet of crips, a piece of fruit, bottle of water and a couple of biscuits.

Today was a no spend day, but only because I had a nose bleed before I was due to go out for my driving lesson (unfortunately I'm still taking them). My instructor wasn't happy about the last minute cancellation; I'll have to give him two week's worth of money next week.

Quit a Habit Game

July 20th, 2006 at 01:49 pm

I've decided that I need all of the help I can get when it comes to saving money for this challenge. So what am I going to do? I was looking at savemoneygames.com and I noticed that there's a game called Quit a Habit. It can be any habit, as long as it saves you money. It doesn't have to be a bad habit. I've decided to stop buying magazines. I usually buy Cosmopolitan every month (£3.20 a month). This is £38.40 a year, which isn't much, but it is something.

I told my boyfriend I was serious about trying to save the money for next year. He thinks I should take out a loan for some of it; he also volunteered to take spending money for me on holiday. I told him I can do it. My mum offered to help me with spending money too. I can do it; they just have to realise that I can. I haven't gotten off to a good start but I'm sure it will get better?

No spend day

Big Grin

I really should have put my name down for some overtime, but the weather has been really nice here. I'm not used to seeing the sun.

Next week, I will definetly do more overtime. Definetly.

back to the challenge

July 19th, 2006 at 01:56 pm

I added £8.70 today.

New total: £35.60 + £8.70 = £44.30

Graduation

July 18th, 2006 at 12:00 pm

I graduated on Thursday morning. It was a really nice day. The only bad point was that I thought that I was going to either pass out or be sick at the ceremony. I think that was only because of the heat and the number of people that were in the theatre. Nobody told me how warm the gowns are.

Graduation Ball was on Friday. It was a great night. The hotel was really expensive. I think I did more dancing than drinking anyway. I took lots of pictures, and so did my boyfriend, so I just need to learn how to put them on the computer (or steal his).

I woke up this morning to a letter about my Graduate Endowment. I need to pay more than £2000. Less than a week after I've graduated and I'm getting letters already.

Night before graduation

July 12th, 2006 at 09:43 pm

It's the night before my graduation. I've got my things sorted for the morning so I'm not stressing about it.

Spent some money today, kept my receipts so I can total up any savings later and how much I've spent.

So, have I just abandoned my challenge?

July 9th, 2006 at 12:38 pm

No, I haven't, although from my previous entries it looks like that.

This week is Graduation week: I graduate on Thursday and my Graduation Ball is on Friday. Me, my mum and my boyfriend have been working out how much money we will need for the ceremony and the graduation ball. I need to get my boyfriend to give me his half of the money before Thursday so I can put it into my account.

I got paid on Friday, and I bought the outfit I'll be wearing to my graduation. I also bought some clothes for my holiday.

I think I will add more to my challenge next week when I really won't be doing anything.

I've been bringing my own lunch to work, which is really helping. Just need to try and save money in as many ways as I can.

No Spend Day

July 6th, 2006 at 07:21 pm

A lazy day here, I didn't do anything. I also didn't spend anything Smile

I need a new job

July 6th, 2006 at 01:45 pm

There's this woman in my department in her early fifties who keeps on pestering me about when I'm going to leave the supermarket. She's been like this every since she realised that I graduate this year. Yesterday she asked me if I had started looking for another job. I said I hadn't. Her response: "So you're just going to waste your degree and spend the rest of your life here?" I told her that all the jobs I've looked at say you need experience. I've decided not to tell people in my department anything, especially this woman who is really friendly with my manager - she even does the rotas. It's none of her business so I don't know why she keeps on asking me; clearly she wants rid of me. She would be the first to tell my manager if I had applied for other jobs.

June was a really bad month

July 4th, 2006 at 09:57 am

During June:

- I completely maxed out my overdraft
- I borrowed money from my mum
- I went to my friend's wedding and hen night with borrowed money
- My OH even helped me out with money
- I abandoned my challenge during the last two weeks of the month

All in all, a really bad month. I hope this month's better.

My OH spoiled me

July 2nd, 2006 at 11:43 am

There was a 25% off sale at work yesterday on clothes, that was before staff discount. My OH bought me a lot of clothes, he filled one of those little trolleys. I put a lot of it back. He spent about £80 on me after discount and it's all for going on holiday. He's really getting better at picking clothes for me. I told him I would buy him a game for his XBOX 360 when I can afford it.
