Well I received a reply:

Thank you for your message.

I appreciate that you pay more than the minimum payment each month and have never missed any payment on your account. Please continue doing the same as this will help you to improve your credit rating. However, I'm unable to review the current interest rates on your account at the moment. Please be assured that we do review the interest rates on a periodic basis and will let you know in writing if we are able to offer you a lower interest rate in the future.

If you have any other queries, please send us a further secure message.

Well you tried! I would guess since that they see you making larger than the minimum payments that they actually see that as losing money on their end...and they are right, keep doing what you are doing!!

They have no incentive to give you a lower interest rate unless there's a chance you will transfer your balance to another CC and close the account with them. It's most profitable for them if you only pay the minimum due each month.

Since they will notice that you can 'afford' to pay more than the minimum, it won't be surprising if they raise your credit limit to tempt you further into debt so you can pay them a higher minimum.

I find often that calling works better. It might be worth a shot?

@Jenn- they've increased my credit limit a few times. A while ago I had cleared the balance and I think they increased my limit by about £600. Of course I ended up using it again Frown

I agree with My English Castle...is there a way you can call? Although, I have discovered that even calling often does little good.

I would just put all of my effort into paying them off, then, when you have a zero balance, take a picture of the credit card cut into tiny pieces on top of a printout of the email response.

Just thinking about that would keep the card in my pocket when I would otherwise pull it out for something unnecessary.

In the meantime, I'd be looking around for cards with no fees, lower rates, and better rebates. Whichever way I got out from under that card, the email and photo would definitely be sent to the company along with a big, fat, "I'll never do business with your company again."
