More Thinking & Planning

December 12th, 2013 at 08:40 am

Just a few thoughts...

I'm going to get back into the habit of meal planning again. I haven't done a proper meal plan in weeks, and even hubby has noticed! Back to planning meals again, it's good for the budget.

Another thing I'm going to do before this year is over is to total up the amount of interest I have been paying on credit cards and catalogue. This was a suggestion from snafu and I think it's a brilliant idea. There's nothing like seeing it all in black and white for motivation.

I need to think of goals for 2014.

I agree that seeing the amount you pay in interest each year is a helpful motivator to reduce debt.

Probably more information than you want and hope it's OK to mention... Back in the olden days, when we were in our 20's and expanding our family, we found it helpful and efficient to use a 3 ring binder to create a Planner. Punched holes in one of those larger, free calendars as monthly section dividers and added ordinary lined paper for lists, Week-by-Week menus , Free Financial seminars, Free DIY Saturday AM seminars of interest.

Marked the calendar with Pay Days, noted Birthdays/Holidays/Special events, regular bills due, Deadlines. If I wanted/needed bed sheets, I made myself wait until the January 'White Sales' for example.

20+ years forward and I still use a 3 ring Binder full of page protectors for seasonal tasks, computer generated To Do lists, Monthly Menu planner and Sunday menus for company dinners. When we downsized from house to condo, I needed to have specific kits for a l-o-n-g list of supplies with the goal of having What was needed, When it was needed, Where it was needed. That printed list is in the binder so that even DH can find stuff when I'm working out of the country.
